Full-text census records should never be overlooked. The most valuable piece of information? That's easy . . . Place of Birth!

This publication contains the 1850 full-text census of Harlan County, Kentucky. Each entry includes:

• Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, and Place of Birth for Head of Household
• Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, and Place of Birth for Spouse
• Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, and Place of Birth for All Residents including Children
• Dwelling houses numbered in the order of visitation and families numbered in the order of visitation.
• Miscellaneous information including enumerator's notations; transcriber's notations; race, if other than white; twins, if so indicated by enumerator; and whether blind, deaf, pauper, etc.

Persons identified as black or mulatto are notd in parenthesis after their names.

One very interesting aspect of the 1850 Harlan Census are the limited amount of surnames. In 90% of the entrys, over ten first names are noted with approximately 50% of the surnames have twenty or more first names listed.
