Newsletter Subtitle:  LET'S CHECK OUT SOME INDIANA BOOKS!
Month Day Year:  DECEMBER 7, 2010

Sorry I missed Friday's CRAZY CRATE.  This is it, just a little late, because that index took a lot longer than I thought it would!

Now for the books: Here's someplace we have not visited for a while.  As I get ready to start on this crate for Tuesday, December 7, 2010, we are experiencing Indianapolis,IN getting its first accumulating snowfall of the 2010-2011 winter.  The weatherman says we may get as much as eight inches of snow by tomorrow!  Not good news, but it sure is pretty outside my windows!

Especially if I don't have to go out into it!!  The Van Treese Christmas Party is held on the first Sunday in December, so tomorrow, hopefully, will be warm and safe to drive.  We do home cooking at the summer reunion, but we go to a nice cafeteria in the winter.  [Note:  It was cold, but the streets were mostly clear, the food was good, we had over forty of us there, and we talked up a storm.  We had all four of our young ones there, ges from 7 down to 2 and all from my dad's branch of the family!  They were so good.  My kids, David and Ginjer, took me to The Half-Price Book Store, my favorite place to shop, and I had a lot of fun picking out books for my great-grandaughter, Donna, for Christmas.  My daughter, her grandmother, always asked for books for Christmas, as I do still today!  We are all readers!

IN - YOGS79 book 12:  WASHINGTON COUNTY, INDIANA MARRIAGE RECORDS 1815-1847.  Book A- May 1815 to October 1828, Book B-October 2828 to February 1833, Book C-Mar 1833 to July 1837, Book D-July 1837 to March 1844 and Book E-March 1844 to February 1847.   Compiled by Ruth Slevin in 1970.  173 pages, 8 by 11 inches, light blue Accopress metal binding with stiff covers.  This book was done long before computers could merge bride and groom names in one list, so this great researcher typed the book with the book and the page number of the record first, then the dates next, then the bride's names and lastly the groom's names in alphabetical order.  Then she reversed the project, typing still the book and page number first, the date next, then the groom's names followed by the bride's names in alphabetical order.  This careful lady typed the marriage return date.  If the license was granted, but no one returned the minister's or Justice of the Peace's return after the marriage, if there even was one, she labeled it "Lic." to mark the lack of a return.  However, it does create a problem when I want to abstract the two indexes.  So this is what I am going to do.  I will list every male surname with three or more first names.  The second number given will be the number of brides with that same surname.
