CRAZY CRATE 112 - AUGUST 12, 2011

We are seeing the light at the end of this tunnel!

The rejuvenation and updating of this North Carolina Website edition is at hand, well, almost? Let's see what counties we have to work on in this crate - Randolph County is first and Richmond County follows today and Rowan County will be out next Tuesday, so let's see if any of your ancestors happen to be hanging out in those areas.

RANDOLPH COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA WAS CREATED FROM GUILFORD COUNTY IN 1779.

[NOTE: GuilfordCounty was taken from Rowan and Orange in 1770 so watch for Tuesday's Crazy Crate with Rowan County materials for the parents and grandparents of people who show up first in Guilford in 1779, then here in Randolph and Richmond after 1779. Those ancestors could have been married, had children and died in Rowan or Orange or GuilfordCounties. They moved twice, and never had to pack or unpack when these counties were formed FIRST-Guilford in 1770, NEXT RandolphCounty in 1779] were formed!]

NC - YOGS CRAZY CRATE 112 BOOKS 02, 03, 04, 05,06,07: SOLD AS A SET. RANDOLPH  THE GENEALOGICAL JOURNAL BY THE RANDOLPH COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY formally organized under the RANDOLPH COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. [I just love it when two societies, both the historical and the genealogical, work together. For both of them the objective is to document the past of the people who from the first settler of that county many years ago to the newest born baby last night are all citizens of that county. Genealogy and history, to me, are like the two sides of the same coin. History documents what people do when they live and work by the groups they form, the offices, businesses, the fire department, the hospitals, the police department, the political people running the government, the churches, the places of entertainment, the schools, the PTA, charities and fraternal organizations. It would be easy to name literally thousands of these groups. Our history is made up of what these groups do - or don't do. That's what gets written up in the history books.

Our genealogy is what our ancestors did with their family members as they acted within the family at home and with these groups in the community, so our genealogy is what our individual family members did as they went about their daily lives. This, many times, never gets written up at all!

The family, their relationships with each other within the family, and the groups that family supports with their time, their efforts and their money is what genealogists want to document. This effort is definitely more personal than history, more isolated and focused, narrow, not broad in scope, but pin-pointed to a specific family and their places in their community, their schools, their churches, their business, their farm, the organizations to which they belonged, all of that is grist for the mill that will produce a lineage of which the genealogist can be proud, because it is factual and real and it is his/her past.

These two groups work well together to the betterment of society as a whole, and to the well-being of the state, the city, the county, the group, the family and the individuals who live there.

Thank you for checking out our newsletter today. We made it through a couple of counties, but we sure didn't get to Yadkin did we? Well, it is too hot here to work any faster than I am, but we are going to do Rowan County next week with everything I have left for that county, and I am not sure it will all fit in one crate!

The Stock Market is on its way back up again. That is one of the wonderful things abou t living in this United States. We can take a licking and still keep on ticking!

Money is tight, but it always is when you spend more than you earn, and most of us, including our government, think they can just keep on spending it. The only thing THAT will bring us is more trouble!

We can help!  We can picnic under a tree in the backyard while sitting on a blanket.  The young kids will enjoy that as much as eating out.  Hunker down, stay home more, play games with your kids and just hold on.

In 73 years of living, I've seen worse, but if you just keep trying to be a good American, help out your family and friends and keep smiling, things will get better! They always have for me. PAT from YOGS
