YOGS CRAZY CRATE 110 - AUGUST 5, 2011

We are updating our current website for North Carolina. There have been many changes, because books come and go around here all the time! I wanted to make sure that you were aware of the books we have in stock concerning records for that state. There have been some changes in our stock of these one-of-a-kind books for NC because so many of us have Scotch-Irish ancestors and they were a powerful group that emigrated from Scotland and Ireland through Pennsylvania, New York and down to what was early on, in 1752, Rowan County, NC, from which six other counties were created in the 1800s. Many of the descendants of that early group had children and grandchildren that migrated up into Kentucky and Ohio and then across to Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and from there to the Pacific Northwest of Idaho, Oregon and Washington, as well as those that headed south to California. So here we go, today, with counties that begin with Johnston County and get us all the way thru Northampton County.  I am trying to get all these county books indexed for you but time is short between these crates and there are a few I just haven't gotten to yet!

JOHNSTON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA WAS CREATED FROM CRAVEN COUNTY IN 1746.

YOGS CRAZY CRATE 110  BOOK 1: NC - JOHNSTON 01:  1850 U. S. CENSUS PRINT OUT FROM MICROFILM FOR JOHNSTON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA.  By John F. Schunk, Editor, S-K Publications. 1990.  Census pages 1 through 111-each take four pages to print out but that is why they are so easy to read. (Some apparent discoloration on inside title page and along bottom edge of first inch of pages on the right side.  Does not affect readability of any page.)  440 pages plus surname index.  The surname index shows the following surnames appear in this county on three pages marked by (,) or more marked by the (#) of pages. The use of this book form of the census with the index makes it more likely that you will find all the members of that family, because as you can see from the above, they did not all live in the same house. Elderly mothers often lived with their oldest married daughter, sisters often lived with other family members because they didn't get along with each other well, boys often lived with the relative in the family who needed the most help with the garden or the farm. Various family members moved in and out of households because of sickness, theirs or someone elses in the household.  Older independent young adults frequently took work as a housekeeper, nanny or with a business that provided them a place to live in or near the business. Some of these high numbers may indicate related families which moved west together at the same time. All these pages may not reflect closely related families, but they may also be related cousins who came to America together and stayed together for many years. Check the names you know might be related. Even if they don't appear to be closely related, they may descend from the same ancestor in their previous country of origin. I always copy everybody in that year's census that lived in the same county as they may prove to become relatives with more research. That project is so easy to do with the aid of this book. You instantly have access to every page number you need! How convenient! PRICE: $30

This sure did take a lot of typing, but if it opens up new county searches and you find your families, it is worth it!  I love doing this kind of work.  Be sure to call me in the early afternoon.  We had to disappoint some people last week because the books sold so fast.  Hours remain the same 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

I have so much yard work to do.  It seems to me that my weeds love this weather even if I don't!  It is better for me to do the yard work I do early in the morning.

Just think how much we are going to miss this weather in January and February of next year.  Didn't the weatherman ever hear a wise man say, "Moderation in all things is good!

Well, at least with four seasons a year, and they come and go even faster when you get to be an advanced age, we don't have too many days before we get another season and we can gripe about that one.  Although now that I think about it, I seldom can gripe about spring and autumn.  I just dislike the extreme weather we seem to be having all the time now.  I am just grateful I don't live in Dallas, Texas!  My theory about weather is this,"  I cn always put on enough layers of clothing to keep warm, but you can't always take off enough to get cool!  PAT from YOGS
