Welcome back!  This is CRAZY CRATE 98:  NORTH CAROLINA PART 5:  From Rowan to Wilkes Counties.  We will have some North Carolina Periodicals coming soon, but I am not finding much time to get them written right now!  Special numbering will be used for the Periodical Issues and because of the numbers of pages involving them, the Periodicals for ROWAN county have been placed in a special section of the next and last crate of NC at the very beginning of it and marked Rowan County Periodicals.  Look for them there hopefully on Friday.  They have real snippets of your ancestor's lives in them.  They will add color, imagination and humor to the book you write!

NC - YOGS- CRAZY CRATE 99  BOOK 01:  ROWAN 01:  ROWAN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA MARRIAGES 1760-1847.  By A. B. Willhite, self-published. 140 pages, Beautifully hardbound in golden tan binding of very good quality.  Rowan County was formed in 1753 from Anson County.  The county seat is Salisbury.  Initially Rowan included the entire northwestern sector of NC, with no clear western boundary, but its size was reduced as a number of counties were split off.  First Surry left in 1771; Burke and WilkesCounties were formed from the western part of Rowan and Surry in 1777 and 1778 respectively.

The smaller RowanCounty was still comprised of Iredell, formed in 1788; Davidson in 1822; and Davie in 1836. Records of the very early Rowan County will be found in Anson County. 140 pages, hardbound, clear type, two column format, 28 marriages per column:  Sample entry:  Abbot, Benjamin: Spouse Hudgens, Mary, Marriage date: Mar. 16, 1781.  Marriages are alphabetical by grooms with a brides' index at the back, computer generated.  107 pages of marriages with data and 31 pages of bride's index with three columns and 58 lines per column. NC - YOGS - CRAZY CRATE 99  BOOK 09: THE UPPER YADKIN VALLEY IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.  BENJAMIN CLEVELAND, SYMBOL OF CONTINUITY. ©1971,  By Betty Linney Waugh.  Ex-lib label inside front cover with ownership information. I bought this book and dozens of others which were donations to the library which already had copies of them, so they were selling them to raise funds to support the society and publish more books on their area.  165 pages, beautifully printed tree on the cardsatock binding.  Large plastic, multi-ring binding.  Looks brand new.  This was originally a dissertation written by the author in the pursuit of a college degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History.  It is a acholarly book that reads well.  It is full of facts, yet it is entertaining.  "The Battle of King's Mountain" is always interesting and a big MILE-MARKER in both North Carolina and Tennessee history.

The Table of Contents contains the following

Eight divisions of this book.

1.)  "BOLD MOUNTINEERS" THE UPPER YADKIN SETTING.

2.)  "BRAVE INDIAN FIGHTERS" PREQUISITE TO POWER.

3.) "MEN OF RENOWN" THE FRONTIER CENTURY.

4.)  "OF WHIGS AND OF TORRIES"  THE KING'S STANDARD

5.)  "THE TORIES SHALL FALL"  CIVIL WAR ON THE UPPER YADKIN.

6.)  "AT LENGTH ON KING'S MOUNTAIN"  THE CLIMAX OF TORYISM.

7.)  "LIBERTY SHALL STAND"  GOVERNMENT AND LAW ON THE REVOLUTIONARY FRONTIER.

8.)  "OUR HEARTS BEING RUN IN TRUELIBERTY'S MOLD"  THE ROLE OF IDEAS IN THE REVOLUTIONARY BACKCOUNTRY.

There is a preface, an epilogue, seven illustrations and a bibliography.  Unfortunately there is no index.  $30
