I thought I should add these since they are all about Logan County, Ohio's History.

YOGS OH: HOWE'S HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS OF OHIOThese booklets are excerpts from this huge two-volume set by Henry Howe which were published in his 1898 Edition and covered all of Ohio's Counties.  These have been reprinted from the original by The Bookmark from Knightstown, Indiana, which is no longer in business and I am unable to reorder these.  Most of these are new, but I have attended several seminars with them and they may be somewhat shopworn as people checked for their surnames in them at seminars.

[NOTE from the publisher]:  Dr. Howe LL.D., wrote, compiled and sketched his original History of
Ohio in 1847.  Between 1885 and 1890, he compiled a revised and enlarged edition of his original history.  His concise, yet informative, history of each county in Ohio should prove valuable to genealogical researchers not having access to this book.

Dr. Howe's Introduction to his two-volume set is worthy of inclusion in each county book.  These individual booklets, most about 6" by 9¼", some a little smaller, some a little larger, the size depending solely on how and in what size they were printed at the time.  All have cardstock covers.  All are stapled.  The smaller ones, from Bookmark priced at $7 were done on 8½ " by 11" paper and some were cut to a smaller size before stapling.  For the
Logan County Book the price is $5.  I also have one  priced at $9 that is full sized at 8½" by 11"

These histories have been reprinted many times over the years because of their value both to historians and genealogists.  There are 88 counties in Ohio.  The original Howe's Histories now sell on the rare book market for hundreds of dollars, and these reprints of each county's history are much more affordable.  Genealogists may have only a few lines that passed through Ohio to get to somewhere else and only have an interest in one or a few of the counties.  This breaking down of the entire set allows them to purchase only the counties they want.  Let me know if you want a different county!

SAMPLE INFORMATION shows you the format followed in all of the counties.  Most are still available.  If you need a different county call me, I have most of them here.  All of these booklets are illustrated with Howe's sketches made from 1846 to 1890.  As the number of pages varied, so did the price.  Most of the books were 20 or more pages.   Sample format from the book for
Adams County contains 20 pages of text plus the one-page reproduction of the 1868 Atlas of Ohio map for Adams County by H. F. Walling, which was reduced to fit the page.  Next, is Dr. Howe's Introduction to the Centennial Edition of four pages. The history, itself for this one county sample, begins on page 223 of the original book & continues to page 240.

A population total is given in the
Adams County Book from the census data for 1840 and 1880 for each township, and totals for 1820. 1840, 1860 and 1880 including the number that were Ohio-born in 1880.  Articles in the Adams County book include the following:   The Settlement at Manchester is recorded in detail.   Israel Donalson's Narrative of his Captivity, The Shawnee Camp, McDonald's account of Indian history at Manchester, Ellison's Captivity, The first Court Held in West Union in 1846, Manchester, Industries and Employees, the Bark Cutters, Plan of the Serpent Mound, Traveling Notes, Bellefontaine, Old Soldiers, Women of the Scioto Valley, The Scotch Irish, Steamboat Racing, Experience of an Old Time River Man, River Beacons, The Best Sleep in History and the Blessing of the Moon are just some of the topics covered in this book.  Very interesting reading, early and later settler's names and six very helpful sketches to see, too! Similar formats are used throughout all the counties.  Most counties are available in one mini-volume.  These Logan County, Ohio Bookmark books are priced at $5 for this one crate special!

The larger books are published by a different publisher.  They are the same materials in a larger size, 8½" by 11", with larger print, with a newer style cardstock cover, wrapped around from the back to the front of the book, and are all newly done in a more recent style of printing.  Price for the larger book is $9, but I only have one copy of that larger sized style.

YOGSOH: OHIO GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES.  By Charles M. Franklin.  Published by YOGS, 1997.  25 pages, wrapper style cardstock covers 8½" by 11".  New copies.  Ray and I asked Charles Franklin to do this book, that quickly became a set of books, on the basic sources of genealogical and historical information.  He put together these books to assist all genealogists who needed an inexpensive book to go to when they can not think of who else to ask.  This book is his OHIO effort.  He gives a brief history of the state, some guidance on Religion in Ohio, Vital Records kept, Census Records available and tax lists.  He has comments on Probate Records, land and property records, military records, divorce records, and naturalization records.  He has extensive lists of 138 Archives and Libraries, a quick phone call could establish current addresses, if indeed, they have changed at all!  You wouldn't know to ask for it if you never knew it was there n 1997!  He has a list of over 320 Genealogical and Historical Societies on 8 ½ pages, many of these change addresses yearly with new elections of officers.  Check online (website) or by phone (information).  A call to the county's local librarian will get information almost every time.  A list of over 150 periodicals (almost 6 pages) published by individuals and societies may put you in touch with other relatives that did not move when your ancestors did!

Then there is a valuable list of the year of formation of every Ohio County plus its parent county.  Addresses and phone numbers are given. (3 pages)  They may be dated, but the Post Office will know where the Courthouse is!  If you want to get in touch with someone this is a quick guide to use.  Multiple copies of this book are available.  Special price is $5 for 25 pages of help.

If you like this one, we also have similar ones for IllinoisKentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.  Multiple copies of each of these books are available. Special price is $5 each for however many pages of help each book has in it for they do vary slightly in the number of pages.  Although they vary slightly from state-to-state, all of these books cover the same format. PRICE: $5
